Acorns Children's Hospice Trust are looking for qualified bank nurses for our Birmingham Hospice to assess, plan and deliver holistic care to life-limited and life-threatened children and young people at the hospice.  

About the Role

At Acorns Children’s Hospice, we provide specialist palliative care for children, and young people with life-limiting and life‑threatening conditions, and we support their families through every step of their journey, and through transition.  Our work is defined by compassion, expertise, and an unwavering belief that every child deserves comfort, dignity, and the chance to experience joy.

Each hospice is purpose-built with individually decorated rooms overlooking our gardens. We try to make it as welcoming and friendly as possible – a homely environment for the children, young people and their families. 

As a Bank Nurse, you will: 

  • Work ad hoc shifts to cover absence
  • Assess, plan and deliver care to babies, children and young people, using a systematic approach and creating an individualised care plan.
  • Use your clinical skills including caring for children who require long term ventilation, tracheostomy care, oxygen therapy, suction, syringe drivers and enteral feeds.
  •  deliver evidence-based end of life and symptom management and after death care

About You

  • Registered Nurse
  • Demonstrable relevant experience in palliative care
  • Ability to provide personalised nursing care

What We Offer

  • £15.69 to £20.92 per hour, plus additional enhancements
  • Bank shifts
  • Based in our Birmingham Hospice (B29 6HZ)

You need to be eligible to work in the UK to be considered for this role. We are committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and therefore any successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check for children and will be asked to provide two satisfactory references.  In addition, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of immunisation against specific diseases or confirm their willingness to receive the necessary vaccinations.
