Join Acorns Children’s Hospice as a Housekeeper at our Hospice in Birmingham, where you’ll play a vital role in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for children and families. You’ll ensure all cleaning and hygiene standards meet infection control principles and comply with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025 and our internal policies.

About the Role

Acorns Children's Hospice are a children's charity, offering specialist palliative nursing care and support for local children and their families.  Every year, we support over 750 children and nearly 1,000 families, including those who are bereaved.   Each hospice has specially decorated bedrooms, therapy rooms, a hydrotherapy room and dining facilities. 

As Housekeeper, you will:

  • Undertake cleaning duties in line with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025
  • Follow infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols, including colour-coded cleaning systems, use of microfibre, and cleaning sequence
  • Complete all required cleaning records, checklists, and schedules to demonstrate compliance
  • Support volunteers in safe cleaning practices under supervision
     

About You

  • Previous experience of basic housekeeping duties including cleaning and laundry
  • Knowledge of COSHH and proper use of chemicals
  • Understanding Colour-Coding
  • Understanding of the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025.

You need to be eligible to work in the UK to be considered for this role. We are committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and therefore any successful candidate will be subject to a DBS check for children and will be asked to provide two satisfactory references.  In addition, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of immunisation against specific diseases or confirm their willingness to receive the necessary vaccinations.
